From Pumpkin to Hermès: a tale of decorating with orange

An orange door sets the tone to this vintage and bohemian inspired decor (via Design*Sponge)

On this day of Halloween, while goblins and princesses are about to roam the streets, my eye keeps getting caught by this colour which creates an emotional reaction within me every time…orange. I have confessed to this many times, I am more than partial to this bright hue.

I love this moroccan leather pouf giving the bedroom the hit of orange it needed.

Airy and bright, this family room is "pumpkinlicious" (via Cottage Blue Designs)

Whether it is because I am a 70′s child and I grew up surrounded by burnt orange shag wall-to-wall carpeting, or because I have an infatuation with the brand whose boxes are eponymous of luxury, I couldn’t tell you but there is something about orange that really makes me happy.

Gotta love the mix of the zebra print chaise lounge with the orange throw cushions. Sophisticated and playful at the same time.

I have long looked for an opportunity to do a whole room in orange, but marriage being what it is, I had to come to terms with a happy medium of orange accents in most rooms. That being said, I have to agree that it was probably the wisest choice as these pumpkin hued throw pillows, kitchen tools and bath mats give energy to each room without being to overpowering.

All it takes are a few of these infamous Hermès boxes

Pink and orange make for a great pair...and so do these chairs!

In the guest bedroom, twin beds float above ground

In small doses or in massive splashes, I would advise anyone to try a bit of the orange remedy. After all wasn’t it a smart physician who said… an orange a day keeps the doctor away?

A glamorous family home

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Vintage, contemporary and rustic elements all mixed together in a beautiful and comfortable decor for this family home of six.

Banquette stools high perched at the kitchen island

soft tones and detailed finishes make for this glamourous interior

In the formal dining room, slipcovered chairs give the grandeur of the room an easy and comfortable feel.

It's all in the details. This common area connecting two spaces and floors has received as much attention as the rest of the house.

Privacy screens has many purposes, one of which is to be highly decorative.

Oversized light fixtures are a hit... especially when they happen to be vintage lanterns.

In the bedrooms, feminine touches make the rooms

Even a teenager's bedroom can look put together and still age appropriate. Plus: LOVE the monogramming of anything!

A linen covered headboard and a claw foot bath make for a very luxurious and glamorous master bedroom.

A home that rekindled me with the fact that design and kids can co-exist. I loved everything about it, and you?

Défi Mode-Déco: l’Halloween version Pan-Am

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

A pinch of vintage and a dash of colour

A splash of colour and a vintage feel

Who said a space had to be well put and “matchy-matchy” to be pretty? What would think of visiting such a raw space?

I can only speak for myself by saying that my first word would be “wow” and then “I am envious”. I am envious of the deliberate sense of style of the homeowners, of their confidence in assuming their bold choices of colour and of their keen eye in seeing how pretty old can be.

I love the juxtaposition of textures, the mix of eras in the furnishing and the over flowing amount of books that render the space so personal and characteristic.

I also love the craftiness seen in every piece of furniture on display. I don’t think one has been put there without some minor or major transformation from its original form. That to me is…art.

When it is all said and done, there are no rule in creating the perfect home. However raw or dishevelled the space might seem, beauty is only a chip of paint away.
