Some features simply cannot go out of style in my book. I still peruse through my Domino Magazine issues and enjoy the decors that are still both current and very quirky.

The first apartment of the lovely and bubbly Noami Stein of Design Manifest is one of those classics. Featured on Design*Sponge, its pictures have been shared, tweeted and pinned countless times. So today, it is my turn to give this stylish lady a visual tribute that I hope you will enjoy… again and again.

The Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams sofa looks fresh with the mismatched but Oh so lovely throw pillows!

I am sure it will not be hard for anyone to see why this home resonates with my own sense of aesthetics. I absolutely adore how she integrated colour everywhere, her knack for integrating high and low furniture, and of course her eye for spotting great vintage finds.

A mirror makes this Ikea's Expedit bookcase seem all the more polished.

Pretty in pink does not begin to describe this lovely apartment belonging to Norwegian Silje Aune Eriksen, a ceramic designer.

Airy and devoid of unnecessary artifices, this humble abode is anything but boring. Im the bedroom the woodland themed wallpaper looks fresh with the sloped ceiling, the architectural pieces of furniture (gotta love the desk’s chair) and the soft colour palette.

Graphic hits of neon and touches of black give the space a disarmingly candid charm.

As I revel in these amazing pics, I’d like to boast to the fact that tomorrow, at this time, I will be on my way westward to the Niagara-on-the-Lake area for a well earned vacation week with my family. Yay!!

I am sure that the outdoor’s fresh air and a little sun bathing will make wonders for my creativity and future blogposts… at least that’s the plan right? :o)

People often ask me what are my rules for high/low decorating. The high and low of decorating is a tricky art to master and can go horribly wrong if it’s done wrong.

The goal of decorating on a budget is to have a high end look on a low budget… Not the other way around! Case in point: one or two tasteful Ikea hacks is ok, buying everything at Ikea with the goal of hacking it, is not.

Here are a few of my high and low decorating tips.

1. Splurge on high quality big ticket items like sofas, chairs and beds. The quality will largely outlast any Ikea sofa so you’ll end up spending the same amount on sofas over 10-20 years. Make sure these items are in classic shapes that you will love forever for a long time and the the fabrics are durable.

2. Save on trendy accessories that, let’s be honest, you’ll want to throw away in a year’s time anyway. I’m talking to you, brass menageries, suzani throws, ikat bowls, foo dog bookends, zebra rugs and starburst mirrors…

3. Splurge on textiles. People always assume that the big ticket items are the larger furniture and appliances but the hidden costs often lie in curtains, rugs, pillows, bedding… For example, curtains should be custom made. Pillows under $100 won’t last.  Anything that’s soft furnishing is worth splurging on. It makes all the difference in the world. The only exception to this rule is a good vintage rug score (look on eBay)!

4. Save on antique and vintage finds. This is where resourcefulness comes in handy. I’ve gotten some of my best pieces on the curb side for nothing and all they needed was a little TLC. Go to garage sales, flea markets, local thrift shops and antique markets, look on eBay and Craigslist – you will find some real gems!

5. Mix high and low art. Large artwork from reputable artists cost an arm and a leg. But only having small prints from Etsy doesn’t do much overall. Try mixing larger prints with smaller genuine artwork, frame your own photos, ask your talented friend to paint a custom piece for you, look for art in flea markets, ask your grandma what’s hiding in her attic. Basically a mix of art will look much better without the crazy price tag.

La plupart d’entre vous sont sûrement en vacances. Alors comme moi, je n’ai pas la chance de partir avant l’automne, j’ai décidé de partir en Australie virtuellement. Je vous ai trouvé des beaux paysages que je suis certaine vous pourrez retrouver dans notre belle province.

Place au mariage en campagne australienne …

Emelia & Anthony ont eu le bonheur de se dire “oui” sous l’objectif de la talentueuse Christine de Pobke Photography. J’aime l’ambiance apaisante de cette photo.

En choisissant les photos de ce mariage, j’avais envie de vous parler d’un concept très important lorsque vous vous mariez: la séance photo. Avant le jour J, prévoyez avec votre photographe le programme de la journée. Il n’y a pas de secret: Si vous souhaitez avoir de belles photos il faut un minimum de 1h30 à 2h dédiées juste à ça. Et il faut prévoir encore plus de temps si vous souhaitez des belles photos avec tout votre cortège.

Emilia & Anthony ont opté pour l’esprit pratique … Après la cérémonie, départ en bus avec tous leurs amis.

Au coucher du soleil, le ciel devient superbe pour des photos de couple réussi.

Au passage, les tenues des mariés, à la fois simples et modernes, sont parfaitement en accord avec celles de leur cortège.

Dans le bus entre chaque prise de vue, une belle ambiance et des bulles assorties aux couleurs du mariage! L’esthétique est parfaite.

Si vous vous mariez dans un cadre idyllique, n’hésitez pas à faire quelques kilomètres pour changer de décor afin d’avoir de beaux souvenirs avec votre cortège. Tous ces petits détails préparés à l’avance rendront votre journée unique!

Le reflet du soleil dans le sable mouillé, la symétrie des chignons des demoiselles d’honneur et les pieds dans l’eau … Bonheur visuel et sensation que ce moment a été unique pour les mariés et leurs amis.

Petite pause avant de rentrer dans …

… le champ! Ils ont dû bien rigoler!

Mais pour un tel résultat, on ne compte pas les kilomètres.
