Everyone has a wish list for their dream home filled with “must-have” items. In this series, I’ll fill you in on my own “must-have” items – and hopefully show you that in some cases they’re more attainable than you think! - Gabrielle, Savvy Home

Valentine’s Day has come and gone which, as Vanessa mentioned last week, is a great time to talk about bedrooms. If I had to put one item at the very top of my dream house shopping list, it would be a canopy bed. Not the stuffy canopies covered in draperies and dust, but a nice, modern clean-lined canopy.

The main reason why I love canopies is that it adds height and scale to bedrooms, which otherwise often have lots of furniture at the same height. It’s an easy way to make a statement and it’s fun to play around with: you can add curtains for special occasions and extra privacy, and then remove them at your leisure. Here are a few of my favorite canopy bed options.
