A Bohemian Christmas

Monday, December 24th, 2012

‘Tis Christmas Eve, the frenzy in our home is palpable. My kids woke up and been fluttering about, as little butterflies, all morning. On my end, the pressure is off! The gifts are hidden and ready to spring under the tree tonight, my hostess skills were put to the test last  night (we have such a modern reconstructed family that our Christmas parties start on the 23rd end end somewhere before January 1st) and all that is left to do today is to choose what to wear to the Sicotte’s family reunion tonight.

Although I am all grown up, I think I am as excited by the festivities as the children are. There is something whimsical and almost magical about this time of year and for some reason I feel as if December brings with its lot of snow and Christmas trees some family values that we seem to wrap in paper tissue with the ornaments the rest of the year.

A Modern & Minimalist White Christmas

Friday, December 21st, 2012

With a Mid Century Modern decor as its backdrop, this white Christmas decor is anything but bland.

Here are a few tips to creating a modern and minimalist Christmas Decor this season:

Swap Out Pictures –  Instead of putting up Christmas stuff over your picture frames, print out black and white Christmas graphic Christmas images and put them in the frames.  Your walls will become instantly, and cheaply more festive, without being cluttered.

Make Use of Vertical Space – Paper garlands and strings of light are very pretty, and hanging them on the wall or over windows is a great way to decorate for Christmas without sacrificing counter or floor space. They’re also easy to store, when laid flat they barely take up any space at all.

Rethink the Tree – As small as your house may be, you have room for a tree. Christmas trees come in many shapes and sizes and birch branches have a modern and airy feel.

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

A French Country Christmas

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012

Natural textures and unbleached fabrics combine in this home to create an airy and country Christmas decor. I especially love the red stripes accents which are Oh So French and give the decor an even more festive look.

I also must put on my to do list for next year the cotton wreath that is nicely shabby chic and country, certainly not bling bling.  I love most its slightly unruly silhouette and totally natural feel, and it should be said that mistletoe berries on a front door can get a bit messy!

A Glamorous Home

Friday, December 7th, 2012

I give you a (short) recess from my over indulgence in Holiday cheer by presenting you a home today that spells G.L.A.M.O.U.R. in big bold twinkling lights!

Lucite, fur, mirrored surfaces, crystal, and silk are all elements that make this living room sophisticated in a very feminine way. I can’t say that my children and husband would thrive in such a polished environment, but I gotta say that I did so a double take when I came across Ally Coulter’s polished design.
