Savvy Home's Ultimate Gift Wishlist

Hi all, Gabrielle from Savvy Home here for another post. I was thrilled when Vanessa asked me to do an extra post for the holidays, and since I live for product round-ups on my own blog, an ultimate gift wishlist seemed like the perfect way to go.

So far you’ve heard me blabber on about decorating tips week after week in my Top 5 series, but now you get to have a little glimpse of my own personal style, and what I dream about for my own home. As you can see, I’m going through a bit of a pink, blue and purple phase. In fact, only yesterday I raided J.Crew’s purple section. I’m now sitting in my purple outfit feeling like a cross between Barney and, well, Barney.

MGBW Adam Three Panel Room Divider: Anyone who’s been in my apartment knows I’m in dire need of a room divider. This camel colored velvet one from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams is by far the best option.

John Robshaw Danda Quilt: I’m a total sucker for John Robshaw bedding, especially his quilts. This one comes in a funky purple paisley which would look wonderful with my blue velvet headboard.

Equipment Liliane Washed-Silk Crepe de Chine Pajama SetI’m on a pajama roll. Don’t know if that puts me on the road to grandmaism, but I don’t care. Ever since I got a set of Oscar de la Renta PJs for Christmas, I just want to live in pajamas 24hrs a day. And what better pajamas to live in than silk Equipment ones?

Blue Shagreen Jewelry Box: I’ve never owned a real jewerly box and my growing collection is starting to get really messy in various dishes and trays. I’m a sucker for shagreen and royal blue so I could think of no better option to store my jewelry.

J.Crew Cashmere Lined Leather Gloves: I need new gloves. I would choose these over any other pair because they’re: 1. J.Crew 2. Leather 3. Purple 4. Cashmere lined.

NARS Schiap Semi Matte Shocking Pink Lipstick: I’ve always shied away from bright lipstick but I would love to think that I’d have the guts for a hot pink number.

Liberty of London Emma Bridgewater Navy Splatter French Bowls: Thanks to Jamie I discovered these stunning bowls. I’m not sure what purpose they would serve exactly, but I would find them a purpose for sure.

Hermes Tray Table: In the dream gift category, who wouldn’t dream of owning a Hermes tray table? It’s elegant and totally outrageous.

Blue and White Ginger Jar: I’m dying to start a blue and white china ginger jar collection. This seems like a good way to start.

Shine by S.H.O Lola Sofa: I’ve been drooling all over these Shine by S.H.O. velvet sofas that come in a variety of jewel tone velvets.

There you have it, my ultimate wish list. I’m curious to know, what’s on your dream gift wish list?

A Bohemian Christmas

Monday, December 24th, 2012

‘Tis Christmas Eve, the frenzy in our home is palpable. My kids woke up and been fluttering about, as little butterflies, all morning. On my end, the pressure is off! The gifts are hidden and ready to spring under the tree tonight, my hostess skills were put to the test last  night (we have such a modern reconstructed family that our Christmas parties start on the 23rd end end somewhere before January 1st) and all that is left to do today is to choose what to wear to the Sicotte’s family reunion tonight.

Although I am all grown up, I think I am as excited by the festivities as the children are. There is something whimsical and almost magical about this time of year and for some reason I feel as if December brings with its lot of snow and Christmas trees some family values that we seem to wrap in paper tissue with the ornaments the rest of the year.

xoxo

A Modern & Minimalist White Christmas

Friday, December 21st, 2012

With a Mid Century Modern decor as its backdrop, this white Christmas decor is anything but bland.

Here are a few tips to creating a modern and minimalist Christmas Decor this season:

Swap Out Pictures –  Instead of putting up Christmas stuff over your picture frames, print out black and white Christmas graphic Christmas images and put them in the frames.  Your walls will become instantly, and cheaply more festive, without being cluttered.

Make Use of Vertical Space – Paper garlands and strings of light are very pretty, and hanging them on the wall or over windows is a great way to decorate for Christmas without sacrificing counter or floor space. They’re also easy to store, when laid flat they barely take up any space at all.

Rethink the Tree – As small as your house may be, you have room for a tree. Christmas trees come in many shapes and sizes and birch branches have a modern and airy feel.

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
