An Artist’s Lair

Now if I ever wanted to become a full fledge artist (not that I possess that kind of talent anyway, but hey it’s ok to dream), I would love to live and work in a home like this one.The light makes the home’s features come alive in the most subtle ways.  Antique crystal chandeliers and ornate mouldings adorn the otherwise sparse and ecclectic furnishings. Mid century classics, antiques and contemporary pieces mix well and give all the room necessay for the paintings to make a statement in every room. I also love the mix of the massive rose wood table with the Chippendale style bamboo chairs, reminescent of a chic hotel wedding.

Can painting talent be harvested you think, when the promise of living in such a house is the motivating agent? Hummm, let’s find out. Paintbrushes, where are you paint brushes?

Cool & Collected: the Vintage Approach

feminine bedroom with mismatched textured patterns

I saw this bedroom featured on Design*Sponge a couple of weeks ago and my heart skipped a beat. Then I perused the rest of the home’s pictures and I was furthermore delighted.

The layering of textures and patterns cozy things up in the bedroom while the many vintage finds, scattered throughout the house, give it a lived-in feel.

Have a great weekend lovelies and, I am off to the cottage. Also if you are in Québec, don’t forget to participate the Home Depot contest to get a chance to win 5000$ to create your dream patio. The contest ends May 5th so hurry!

La vie en noir et blanc

Scandinavian-chic

Bonne semaines Lovelies!

Before & After: A Dutch Colonial Makeover

dutch colonial transformation

If I utter the word “renovation” what comes to mind? Horror? Stress? Sleepless nights? Deep expenses abyss? Maybe a little of all the above? Well, I can relate. My husband and I went through massive renovations 2 years ago in our apartment and last year in the other apartment we own as part of our Montréal Duplex. It did cost a little more than we had anticipated, although I had prepared a cushion of 20% above the quoted prices. We did get unpleasant surprises when we opened up walls to find out that the electricity had not been changed since the 1920′s and it was beyond repair. But when it was all said and done, and we managed to not get divorced (not even close, can you imagine!!) we were more than happy with the results.

This 1920′s Atlanta Dutch Colonial home is that kind of miraculous before and after transformation. I mean… look at this place! So luminous, so current and yet so timeless. I love everything about this home, which gives me a little hope and anticipation for our next reno, as who knows if it might be coming sooner rather than later (I am a bit of a nomad and I am already fantasizing about a larger home, a real stand alone home with the white picket fence and all!!)

Happy Monday lovelies

xoxo
